Jan Rithamer { Painter }

Jan Rithamer (1944-1995) was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, and moved to New York City in 1963. Jan developed his skills on his own (he is not known to have attended formal art school) and taught art in private schools in the 1970s. Jan worked as a commission artist for the design firm of Valerian Rybar and Jean-François Daigre between 1980 and 1990, doing several paintings and murals for private and commercial clients. Jan took part in a group exhibit at the renown Grand Central Art Galleries in 1989.
This website is dedicated to Jan's memory by his friends who would like to share his masterful and fascinating artistry with the wider public. The paintings shown here are in private collections and used by permission, or they are archival photographic images from Jan's estate. In some cases we do not know where the original paintings are.
If you would like to contact us about Jan's work, or if you knew Jan and would like to share your memories with us as we continue to compile biographical information on Jan, please do so by emailing us at jan.rithamer.paintings@gmail.com. If you have any works of Jan's and would like to include it/them on this tribute website, please do contact us. We are trying to put together a comprehensive catalog of Jan's extant oeuvre. If you own a house or apartment with interior designs by Valerian Rybar, you may well have a Jan Rithamer in one of your rooms.
Whether or not you wish to participate in showing works on the website, we would like to account for Jan's works as they have spread around the world in the decades since he left us and would appreciate any cooperation in this regard!
Thank you,
Friends of Jan Rithamer
